Construction is advancing successfully across the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project. Pipeline construction associated with the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2026, along 11th Street between West B Street and West C Street. Work is expected to continue for approximately four to six weeks, with access limited to local traffic during active construction.

The I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project continues to advance across several active work areas as crews move forward with pipeline installation, sewer testing and restoration, and microtunneling operations.

The Central Avenue road closure is scheduled to end by close of business today, ahead of the original estimated completion date of August 10th, 2026.

Rain and saturated site conditions have affected construction activity across the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project. Crews initially remained on standby while evaluating whether work could safely resume; however, pipe-laying and other active construction operations have since been called off for the remainder of the day.

Access along East Middleton Road will be maintained. Next week, crews will cross Joe Peed Road with the 24” gravity sewer, 8” waterline, and proposed 24” force main. Joe Peed Road will be closed between S. Durham Avenue and WB Clark Road, July 27th through July 30th, with detours in place during closure.

Autry crews are continuing work on the East Lyon Station Road crossing, with plans to complete the crossing work by the end of Wednesday, July 8th. Paving is expected to follow on Thursday, July 9th.

Detour signs will be posted on local streets in the project area and along I-85 to help guide motorists. Drivers are advised to use I-85 Exit 191 to access the Town of Butner during the closure.

Over the next two weeks, I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project activity will take place along Joe Peed Road, West Middleton Drive, East Lyon Station Road, A Street, and 8th Street. Crews will advance major sewer infrastructure work, including gravity sewer installation, combined force main installation, microtunnel-related work, utility potholing, driveway crossing coordination, and controlled blasting operations.

Haren Construction is scheduled to perform coating work on wastewater manholes in the East Middleton area tonight and tomorrow night. This work is part of ongoing Construction Package 1 improvements and supports the long-term protection, durability, and performance of wastewater infrastructure serving the area.

Construction teams reported that the I-85 SSI Project closure near Will Suitt Road has ended, and the road has reopened for normal travel.

A closure on Will Suitt Road is scheduled to beginning Monday, April 27, 2026, as Construction Package 2 (CP-2) of the I-85 SSI Project progress. The closure is expected to begin that morning around 7:00 am and remain in place through the posted work period.

South Granville Water and Sewer Authority advises the public that a planned shutdown of Will Suitt Road at Longwood Drive in Creedmoor, NC is scheduled from April 27th through May 1st.

South Granville Water and Sewer Authority continues to advance major sanitary sewer improvements along the I-85 corridor, with current work moving farther west of the interstate and toward the Will Suitt Road area.

Additional construction activity is scheduled for this Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Joe Peed Lift Station site as crews continue work on the valve and electrical building.
