SGWASA’s latest I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project update highlights continued CP-1 and CP-2 construction activity, including force main installation, utility coordination, traffic management, bypass system work, and ongoing coordination with contractors.

Active utility installation, structural progress, and coordination efforts supporting the next phase of work continue for the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project.

The March Board Meeting video and agenda materials are now available. Park Construction will receive one truckload of pipe today, March 21, on 20th Street. No road closure is expected. Travel with caution in the area.

SGWASA’s I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project is scheduled to continue over the next two weeks with contractor activity focused on East Middleton Drive, West Middleton Drive, Will Suitt Road, West D Street, and the microtunnel receiving pit area.

Crews will continue pump station and pipeline work in the East Middleton area while sewer main installation and site restoration continue on CP-2. Controlled blasting is currently in progress within the work zone, with another session scheduled for 3:00 pm.

I-85 SSI Project activities will continue progressing over the next two weeks with a focus on controlled blasting, bypass operations, excavation, and continued material deliveries to support pipeline installation. Crews are advancing work in active construction zones while maintaining coordination with project partners and utilities to support safe field conditions, maintain access where possible, and minimize service interruptions.

Beginning February 23, 2026, the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement (SSI) Project contractor will begin daily blasting activities in the 8th Street construction area. Blasting is anticipated to occur between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., and is weather-dependent and subject to Fire Marshal availability.

The I-85 SSI Project has maintained steady progress, and crews will continue moving work forward in the Joe Peed Road and Middleton Drive corridors.

This week, JF Wilkerson (Haren Construction Company’s pipeline subcontractor) is expected to begin initial field activities along E. Middleton Drive and W. Middleton Drive, as early as tomorrow.

Despite winter conditions, crews continue advancing foundational work, vault and mechanical coordination, and safe excavation activities that support the next phases of construction.

Residents within the I-85 SSI Project construction corridor may receive a Pre-Blast Survey notification letter from Park Construction. This notice is being provided because rock removal may be required as work progresses, and your property may be located within the project’s standard survey radius for potential blasting activities.

As the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project continues to progress, work remains focused on completing foundation duties for the valve and electrical building and continuing installation of the pressurized sewer piping toward the flow meter vault, with the next phase transitioning into electrical, plumbing, and mechanical work and preparation for the concrete slab.

The I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project is one of the region’s most significant wastewater infrastructure investments and progress continues on schedule. During the November 18th progress meeting, project partners reviewed construction milestones, coordination efforts, and upcoming activities designed to strengthen system reliability, expand capacity, and support long-term growth across the service area.

Haren Construction representatives reported completing concrete and rebar installations at both the Joe Peed and East Middleton Lift Stations wet well structures. Specifically, the lower influent channel walls and the lower and upper wet well walls were completed at the Joe Peed Lift Station.

SGWASA hosted the fifth monthly progress meeting for the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement (Construction Package 1). The session brought together project partners, contractors, engineers, and agency representatives to review construction progress, safety measures, and scheduling updates.
