Crews will install a valve and remove the temporary water line crossing 8th Street to accommodate blasting and installation of a new 36-inch sewer line and manhole for the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement

Construction on the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project (I-85 SSI) is advancing as crews begin 24-hour tunneling operations associated with the railroad bore, beginning September 14, 2026.

The I-85 SSI Project is moving into the next sequence of field activity as crews transition from Railroad Avenue toward A Street and prepare for upcoming work near 8th and C streets.

Butner, NC - Water service is temporarily interrupted along the 300 block of 8th Street while crews repair a corporation stop that was snagged during construction activity. Crews are working to complete the repair and restore service as quickly as possible. An update will be provided once water service has been restored.

Pipeline construction associated with the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2026, along 11th Street between West B Street and West C Street. Work is expected to continue for approximately four to six weeks, with access limited to local traffic during active construction.

Recent rainfall and evolving weather conditions have supported Lake Holt levels rising approximately two feet, which serves as an encouraging improvement for the Granville County community’s water supply.

Due to emergency water main repair work performed by SGWASA utility crews on July 31, 2026, on North Main Street in Creedmoor, NC, affected water customers experienced a temporary loss of pressure within the water distribution system. Based on the laboratory analysis of the water samples collected by SGWASA following the water main break repairs, customers are hereby notified that the System Pressure Advisory is no longer in effect.

The Central Avenue road closure is scheduled to end by close of business today, ahead of the original estimated completion date of August 10th, 2026.

SGWASA’s wastewater treatment plant has a design capacity of 5.5 million gallons per day, while the collection system includes approximately 154 miles of sewer piping and 48 wastewater pumping stations. Each pumping station is equipped with standby power and a monitoring system designed to track operating conditions and generator status.

The South Granville Water and Sewer Authority has implemented Stage 1 Voluntary Water Restrictions while continuing to closely monitor lake levels, regional weather patterns, and overall water supply conditions.

During this work period, residents may see technicians opening and closing water system valves, operating fire hydrants, and conducting minor water flushing in the area. These activities are part of routine system maintenance and preparation for the upcoming unidirectional flushing program planned for the Golden Pond subdivision, in Creedmoor, NC.
