Butner, NC - The Central Avenue road closure is scheduled to end by close of business today, ahead of the original estimated completion date of August 10th, 2026.

The closure has supported I-85 SSI construction activity near Central Avenue and A Street, where crews have been completing wastewater infrastructure work and related roadway restoration. Project crews have worked diligently, using coordinated planning and field execution to complete the construction activities needed to safely reopen Central Avenue.

Teams prepare striping activities to reopen Central Avenue in Butner

Asphalt striping is being completed today on Central Avenue and A Street. This work includes placing roadway markings after construction and pavement restoration activities, helping return the roadway to normal traffic use.

As the closure ends, the temporary electronic message boards used to notify drivers of the closure and detour will be turned off today. Stay Alert, the traffic control provider supporting the project, is scheduled to remove the message boards tomorrow.

Drivers may continue to see limited equipment and traffic control activity in the area as final closeout steps are completed. Motorists are encouraged to remain attentive, follow posted signage, and exercise caution.

SGWASA appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation throughout the closure. The work completed in this area is part of the I-85 SSI Project’s continued investment in wastewater infrastructure reliability, capacity, and long-term service readiness.
