Water Shortage

Response Plan

Water is essential to homes, businesses, schools, and the overall communities SGWASA serves. The Board adopted Water Shortage Response Plan provides a structured approach for managing water resources during periods when available supply may be affected by drought, changing weather conditions, or other circumstances that influence water availability.

SGWASA continuously monitors Lake Holt, customer demand, treatment capacity, and regional weather conditions. This ongoing evaluation supports informed communication as conditions change.

Water Shortage Response Levels

The Water Shortage Response Plan uses a series of response stages that correspond to current water supply conditions. Each stage is designed to encourage or require water conservation based on the severity of the situation. The plan begins with voluntary conservation efforts and progresses to additional measures only if conditions warrant.

This phased approach helps protect available water resources while supporting the essential water needs of the community. Water shortage response plans are commonly used by North Carolina public water systems as part of long-term water supply management and drought preparedness.

Conservation Tips

Water conservation is beneficial every day not only during drought conditions. Small actions across the community help reduce unnecessary demand and support the long-term sustainability of our shared water resources.

  • Repair household leaks promptly.

  • Water landscapes only when needed.

  • Operate dishwashers and washing machines with full loads.

  • Turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth or shaving.

  • Use a broom instead of a hose to clean driveways and sidewalks.

Every conservation effort contributes to protecting the community's water supply.
