Butner, NC - Understanding the systems that support reliable water and wastewater service begins with access to meaningful information. On Wednesday, October 21st, the South Granville Water and Sewer Authority hosted SGWASA Connect, a community information expo offering customers a closer look at the water-quality initiatives, infrastructure improvements and long-term planning efforts supporting utility service across southern Granville County.

The event brought together SGWASA representatives, engineering consultants and project partners to share technical information through educational displays, project presentations, videos and direct conversations with guests.

Understanding Water Quality

A central focus of the event was helping customers better understand the processes and monitoring practices behind their drinking water. Displays highlighted SGWASA's five-stage water treatment process, water-quality monitoring and improvements underway to strengthen treatment and distribution-system performance.

Infrastructure Improvements in Focus

The expo provided additional insight into several major SGWASA initiatives:

  • PFAS Mitigation: Advancing treatment solutions to address regulated PFAS compounds.

  • Filter Media Replacement: Improving filtration performance and operational efficiency across all five treatment filters.

  • Unidirectional Flushing: Supporting water clarity through systematic distribution-system maintenance.

  • I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project: Expanding wastewater capacity and improving infrastructure reliability.

  • Infrastructure Master Planning: Evaluating system conditions and guiding future investments.

Together, these initiatives reflect SGWASA's ongoing efforts to strengthen water quality, improve reliability and plan responsibly for future service needs.

SGWASA extends its appreciation to the engineering consultants, technical experts and project partners for contributing their knowledge and providing additional perspective on the work underway, and to the communities we serve.
