I-85 SSI Project - Two Week Look Ahead

Butner, NC - Over the next two weeks, I-85 SSI Project construction will continue across multiple work areas, with traffic impacts anticipated along Joe Peed Road, WB Clark Road, C Street, 8th Street, and A Street.


A temporary detour is planned for WB Clark Road during next week's road crossing, while full closures are anticipated on 8th Street, C Street, and A Street as applicable to active construction.

Contract Package 1 (CP1)

This week, crews will excavate and haul away contaminated soil near the old Joe Peed lift station. Upon completion, gravity sewer installation will continue, along with installation of the 20-inch force main.


Haren Construction plans to complete the WB Clark Road crossing Monday through Wednesday, OCT 12th – 14th. A temporary detour will be in place on WB Clark Road while the crossing work is underway. Traffic flagging and lane closures will continue on Joe Peed Road as necessary to support construction.


Contract Package 2 (CP2)

Park Construction plans to continue pipe installation along A Street to complete the railroad tie-in, following completion of jack and bore operations; and transition to 8th Street, following the railroad tie-in. Crews will also continue digging the air gap along C Street for Carolina Drilling.


Spiders will be used for the microtunnel work and to complete bore-and-jack tunneling operations. Final paving on Laundry Avenue and Railroad Avenue is scheduled to be completed by next week, with blasting is planned along C Street.
