Butner, NC - I-85 SSI Project work will continue over the next two weeks with sewer installation, railroad and microtunnel tie-ins, pavement restoration, blasting, and site cleanup underway across several active construction areas.

Park Construction is completing the railroad tie-in and plans to complete the microtunnel tie-in before returning to 8th Street to resume installation at the intersection of 8th and C streets. The carrier pipe for the jack-and-bore has been threaded, and Park is completing the connection between the jack-and-bore and the new gravity sewer in Railroad Avenue.

Work on 8th Street is nearing completion. A manhole remains scheduled for installation at the intersection of 8th and C streets, followed by finished grading, placing the sewer into service, completing lateral connections, site cleanup, seeding and strawing, and placement of the asphalt base course. Final paving of 8th Street and Railroad Avenue is tentatively planned before Thanksgiving.

Carolina Drilling will continue blasting along C Street while Park excavates the air gap needed to support the work. Intermittent gas service impacts remain possible as blasting progresses.

Along Joe Peed Road, crews will continue installation of the 20-inch force main. Site restoration and material organization are planned this week, followed by continued restoration and cleanup next week. Periodic lane closures and traffic flagging will be used as necessary. Next week, force-main installation is planned to continue between WB Clark Road and East Lyon Station.

Active Streets & Traffic Impacts

8th Street — Full Closure: Installation will resume at the intersection of 8th and C streets. Some service impacts are anticipated.

C Street — Full Closure: Blasting and related excavation continue. Intermittent gas impacts are possible.

Railroad Avenue — Partial Closure: Railroad tie-in work and final paving remain underway.

Joe Peed Road — Periodic Lane Closures: Traffic will be flagged and lanes closed as necessary for force-main installation.

A Street: Detour signage is scheduled for removal.

Motorists should follow posted traffic controls and allow additional time when traveling through active construction areas.
