The South Granville Water and Sewer Authority has released the May 2026 Virtual Town Hall update to provide customers and community members with a clear overview of several major projects in motion and organizational updates.

Over the next two weeks, I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project activity will take place along Joe Peed Road, West Middleton Drive, East Lyon Station Road, A Street, and 8th Street. Crews will advance major sewer infrastructure work, including gravity sewer installation, combined force main installation, microtunnel-related work, utility potholing, driveway crossing coordination, and controlled blasting operations.

Reports Tell the Story Behind Water Service at SGWASA

Haren Construction is scheduled to perform coating work on wastewater manholes in the East Middleton area tonight and tomorrow night. This work is part of ongoing Construction Package 1 improvements and supports the long-term protection, durability, and performance of wastewater infrastructure serving the area.

Construction teams reported that the I-85 SSI Project closure near Will Suitt Road has ended, and the road has reopened for normal travel.

The South Granville Water & Sewer Authority has received a $10,658,880 SWIA funding award from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Infrastructure. The award will be used for SGWASA’s PFAS mitigation water treatment facility construction project.

Stage 1 Voluntary Conservation measures are not triggered unless usable water storage falls below 60 percent. Current conditions remain well above that threshold and indicate a stable water supply.

As the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project continues to progress, work remains focused on completing foundation duties for the valve and electrical building and continuing installation of the pressurized sewer piping toward the flow meter vault, with the next phase transitioning into electrical, plumbing, and mechanical work and preparation for the concrete slab.

The South Granville Water & Sewer Authority is partnering with Vanguard Utility Service Inc. to complete a systemwide meter replacement initiative within the City of Creedmoor. This multi-phase project is expected to take approximately eight months and will replace older-style water meters at eligible service locations. Haren Construction representatives reported completing concrete and rebar installations at both the Joe Peed and East Middleton Lift Stations wet well structures. Specifically, the lower influent channel walls and the lower and upper wet well walls were completed at the Joe Peed Lift Station.

The State Water Infrastructure Authority has approved SGWASA’s most recent $500,000 funding request, bringing the total project award to $1,000,000 over the past year through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) Drinking Water State Revolving Fund – Emerging Contaminants (DWSRF-EC) program.
