As the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project continues to progress, work remains focused on completing foundation duties for the valve and electrical building and continuing installation of the pressurized sewer piping toward the flow meter vault, with the next phase transitioning into electrical, plumbing, and mechanical work and preparation for the concrete slab.

The South Granville Water & Sewer Authority is partnering with Vanguard Utility Service Inc. to complete a systemwide meter replacement initiative within the City of Creedmoor. This multi-phase project is expected to take approximately eight months and will replace older-style water meters at eligible service locations. The project is scheduled to begin January 20th – 23rd , daily during the hours of 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM on Ferbow Street in Creedmoor, NC.

Haren Construction representatives reported completing concrete and rebar installations at both the Joe Peed and East Middleton Lift Stations wet well structures. Specifically, the lower influent channel walls and the lower and upper wet well walls were completed at the Joe Peed Lift Station.

SGWASA hosted the fifth monthly progress meeting for the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement (Construction Package 1). The session brought together project partners, contractors, engineers, and agency representatives to review construction progress, safety measures, and scheduling updates.

The South Granville Water and Sewer Authority (SGWASA) announces a Pre-Bid Construction Conference for the WTP Filter Media Replacement Project, scheduled to enter construction in Fall 2025. This vital infrastructure improvement is part of SGWASA’s strategic initiatives to support the southern Granville County community with a reliable and sustainable water treatment system.

During the June 17th, monthly progress meeting, CDM Smith representative Bill Mason led project update conversations with project contractors and SGWASA team members. View meeting discussion topics, minutes, and media files below.

As only one bid was received by the submission deadline, and per procurement requirements mandating a minimum of three bids, the team did not proceed with the formal opening.

In the next phase of the project, the contractor will perform three new waterline connections to the existing mainline along Highway 56.  The first tie-in is scheduled for 7:00 AM on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. This portion of the work, indicated in red on the associated map or notice, may result in a temporary drop in water pressure for some customers in the surrounding area. 

At the May 20th progress meeting, CDM Smith representative Bill Mason led with team updates and formally introduced Greg Hoch as the new Resident Project Representative (RPR) for Construction Package 1 (CP1) of the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project. Jackie Jackson, the initial RPR for CP1, will transition to support Construction Package 2 (CP2) as the RPR once that phase begins.

SGWASA has worked collaboratively with Enviromix over the past several years to evaluate and improve key water and wastewater treatment technologies. This partnership included a case study at the SGWASA Wastewater Treatment Plant that focused on Enhanced Biological Phosphorus Removal (EBPR). This process has been shown to target phosphorus more efficiently.

On Thursday, May 15, Carolina Drilling will return to the Joe Peed Lift Station site to lay out and drill a precision blasting grid. Detonation of this grid is expected to occur in the late afternoon, pending favorable conditions.
