I-85 SSI Traffic Alert: Multiple Road Closures and Lane Restrictions

Construction is advancing successfully across the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project. The following Two Week Look Ahead covers Construction Packages 1 and 2 from August 31st through September 11th, 2026.
Under Construction Package 1, JF Wilkerson crews plan to dechlorinate the new 8-inch waterline and collect a bacteriological sample before proceeding with restoration work. Crews will also advance the 20-inch force main leaving Joe Peed. Upcoming work is expected to include removing impacted soil near the existing Joe Peed lift station, installing the remaining gravity sewer and proceeding with force-main construction.
Following Construction Package 2 plans, Park Construction will install 36-inch fiberglass-reinforced pipe along Railroad Avenue. Once that segment reaches manhole 5781, Park plans to transition to A Street near the Mount Hope Lift Station.
Young Construction will resume advancing the microtunnel casing after replacement cutting discs arrive. The installation schedule will depend on the rock conditions encountered. Excavation and shoring for the railroad jack-and-bore pit are scheduled to begin September 7th outside the railroad right of way.
No service interruptions are anticipated. Motorists should remain attentive to posted traffic controls and review the related closure alert before traveling through active construction areas.
