I-85 SSI Project: Two-Week Look Ahead

2 min read

Butner, NC - I-85 SSI Project construction continues across several active work areas over the next two weeks, including Joe Peed Road, WB Clark Road, 8th Street, C Street, A Street, Laundry Avenue, Railroad Avenue, and the Norfolk Southern Railroad crossing area.

JF Wilkerson was unable to complete the planned road crossing last week and began the crossing this week, at WB Clark Road. Rather than a full road closure, the work is being managed with a single-lane closure, with completion anticipated by the end of this week. Traffic will also be flagged and lane closures used as necessary along Joe Peed Road.

This Week

JF Wilkerson plans to continue installation of the 20-inch force main from Joe Peed and complete the WB Clark Road crossing using a single lane closure. Site restoration and material organization are also planned. Periodic lane closures will remain in place near Joe Peed Road and WB Clark Road as necessary to support the work.

Park plans to complete the railroad tie-in following completion of the jack-and-bore work, continue installation toward 8th Street, and continue excavating the air gap along C Street for Carolina Drilling.

Young will obtain casing spacers for the microtunnel and thread the pipe at the Norfolk Southern Railroad crossing. ASD plans to complete final paving on Laundry Avenue and Railroad Avenue.

Blasting will continue along C Street.

Next Week

JF Wilkerson plans to begin installation of the 20-inch force main near E. Lyon Station Road and East Middleton Drive and continue force main installation between WB Clark Road and East Lyon Station Road. Traffic flagging and lane closures will be used on Joe Peed Road, as necessary.

Closures and Service Impacts

- WB Clark Road: Single lane closure during the force main road crossing; completion anticipated by the end of this week

- 8th Street: Full closure anticipated

- C Street: Full closure anticipated

- A Street: Full closure anticipated

Some service impacts are anticipated on 8th Street. Intermittent water and/or gas impacts are also possible as blasting continues along C Street.
