I-85 SSI Railroad Tunneling Moves to 24-Hour Operations
Construction on the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project (I-85 SSI) is advancing as crews begin 24-hour tunneling operations associated with the railroad bore, beginning September 14, 2026.
Nearby residents and businesses may notice increased construction activity during evening and overnight hours.
Pipeline installation also continues along Railroad Avenue, with work expected to advance toward A Street and B Street. Microtunneling beneath I-85 remains underway.
Following the railroad tunneling operation, additional pipe installation and backfilling activities are scheduled through October 23rd.
