I-85 SSI Project TWLA : Sewer Installation and Traffic Impacts
Over the next two weeks, I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project activity will take place along Joe Peed Road, West Middleton Drive, East Lyon Station Road, A Street, and 8th Street. Crews will advance major sewer infrastructure work, including gravity sewer installation, combined force main installation, microtunnel-related work, utility potholing, driveway crossing coordination, and controlled blasting operations.

SGWASA Remains on Target with PFAS Mitigation Plans
Butner, NC - On May 18, 2026, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency proposed maintaining the current federal drinking water standards for PFOA and PFOS while allowing eligible drinking water systems to request up to two additional years, through 2031, to meet enforceable compliance limits associated with the broader PFAS chemical class. The FY26/27Budget reflects SGWASA’s continued focus on financial stewardship, service reliability, transparency, and organizational readiness. I-85 SSI Project - Planned Evening Coating Work in East Middleton Area
Haren Construction is scheduled to perform coating work on wastewater manholes in the East Middleton area tonight and tomorrow night. This work is part of ongoing Construction Package 1 improvements and supports the long-term protection, durability, and performance of wastewater infrastructure serving the area.

Funding Award Confirmed to support SGWASA’s PFAS Treatment Project Construction
The South Granville Water & Sewer Authority has received a $10,658,880 SWIA funding award from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Infrastructure. The award will be used for SGWASA’s PFAS mitigation water treatment facility construction project.

April 27th Will Suitt Road Closure
A closure on Will Suitt Road is scheduled to beginning Monday, April 27, 2026, as Construction Package 2 (CP-2) of the I-85 SSI Project progress. The closure is expected to begin that morning around 7:00 am and remain in place through the posted work period.

I-85 SSI Project - 8th Street Detour
Beginning February 23, 2026, the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement (SSI) Project contractor will begin daily blasting activities in the 8th Street construction area. Blasting is anticipated to occur between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., and is weather-dependent and subject to Fire Marshal availability.

SGWASA Welcomes Commissioner Kenneth McLamb to Board Leadership as Chair
Butner, NC. February 11, 2026 - The South Granville Water & Sewer Authority made organizational changes during the February 2026 Board of Directors meeting through the annual Election of SGWASA officers. At the January 2026 Board meeting, Commissioner Jimmy Gooch formally notified the Board of his intent to conclude his service as Board Chair. By unanimous vote, the Board seated Commissioner Kenneth McLamb as Chair, with Commissioner Georgana Kicinksi continuing as Vice Chair

CP1 & CP2 Project Progress
As the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project continues to progress, work remains focused on completing foundation duties for the valve and electrical building and continuing installation of the pressurized sewer piping toward the flow meter vault, with the next phase transitioning into electrical, plumbing, and mechanical work and preparation for the concrete slab.

January 2026 Board Meeting
SGWASA remains focused on proactive, data-driven improvements that protect water quality, strengthen system reliability, and position the Authority to meet evolving regulatory expectations.
