Butner, NC - The I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project continues to advance across several active work areas as crews move forward with pipeline installation, sewer testing and restoration, and microtunneling operations.
Along Joe Peed Road, crews will continue installation of the 20-inch force main while testing completed sewer infrastructure and restoring areas associated with gravity sewer construction. Motorists should expect periodic flagging and lane closures near the new Joe Peed Pump Station as this work progresses.
In the CP-2 project area, pipeline installation will continue along Railroad Avenue, where crews have returned to a previously blasted section of rock and construction production has increased. Work is expected to transition to A Street and B Street near Hanes Geo once the Railroad Avenue section is complete. Microtunneling beneath I-85 is also underway, with approximately 28 feet completed as of August 17.
Blasting remains on hold pending completion of Enbridge coordination. Maintenance work along 8th Street is approximately 90% complete, with limited vegetation trimming remaining around project fencing.
Preparations are also underway for the upcoming Norfolk Southern Railroad bore, with initial bore-pit work anticipated in September.
No planned utility service interruptions are anticipated during this reporting period. Drivers are encouraged to use caution, follow posted traffic controls, and allow additional travel time near active construction areas.
