Butner, NC - The SGWASA Board of Directors approved a Task Order at the January 13, 2026 Board meeting with Hazen and Sawyer (On-Call Engineering Firm) for a Unidirectional Flushing Pilot Program in the Golden Pond Subdivision in the City of Creedmoor.

Unidirectional Flushing involves a direct and strategic planning effort to ensure that water is being forced to flow in certain directions to clean and scour water mains to reduce buildup and improve water clarity and quality. This process involves a combination of GIS efforts (to identify and ensure correct valve and pipe placement), as well as hydraulic model reference to ensure that the correct gallons per minute can be had for proper scour velocity and field work of turning valves and opening fire hydrants to flow water.

The Unidirectional Flushing program pilot program in the Golden Pond Subdivision started on September 22, 2026 and field work ended on September 23rd. SGWASA staff, with the assistance of Hazen and Sawyer, were able to flush all of the water mains inside of this subdivision.

This program was very successful in obtaining cleaner and clearer water for this subdivision and highlights SGWASA’s continued efforts to provide its customers with the best service and highest quality water possible.

I want to thank SGWASA staff for their work with valve identification and uncovering, valve exercising both pre and post flush, fire hydrant exercising and maintenance, as well as thank Hazen and Sawyer staff for developing and help executing this program. I am glad this program was successful and look forward to continuing these efforts in our pursuit of providing the highest and best quality services possible.
