FATS, OILS AND GREASE EDUCATION
Help the South Granville Water & Sewer Authority prevent FOG from damaging your home and the environment.
An increasingly common cause for sanitary sewer overflows is sewer pipes blocked by grease. Sewer overflows and backups can cause health hazards, damage home/business interiors and threaten the environment.

Where does grease come from?
Grease is a byproduct of cooking from meat fats, lard, oils, dairy products, shortening, butter, margarine, food scraps, baked goods, sauces and soups.
Too often grease is washed into the plumbing system usually through the kitchen sink. Over time, grease builds up and eventually blocks the pipes.
The results can be:
• Raw sewage overflowing into your homes, yards or/and streets
• Possible contact with disease-causing organisms
The easiest way to solve the grease problem is to keep fats, oils and grease out of the sewer system:
• Never pour grease down the sink drains and toilets
• Do not pour grease down garbage disposals
• Pour grease into containers and dispose of in the trash
• Scrape grease and food scraps from plates, pots pans into the trash for disposal before washing
