Butner, NC - The South Granville Water & Sewer Authority has received a $10,658,880 SWIA funding award from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Infrastructure. The award will be used for SGWASA’s PFAS mitigation water treatment facility construction project.

The final terms have recently been outlined and reviewed by SGWASA staff via the Letter of Intent to Fund, highlighting the following funding structure.

The award includes a $6,658,880 in grant funding $4,000,000 in low-interest repayable loans.

This funding will be incorporated into SGWASA’s broader PFAS funding strategy, alongside additional funds the Authority is actively working to secure for the project. The confirmed funding structure outlined in the Letter of Intent to Fund reduces the amount of long-term debt SGWASA must take on for the project. This funding plan maintains on-time progress toward the US Environmental Protection Agency’s April 2029 PFAS compliance deadline, following updated federal PFAS regulatory limits and requirements.

The South Granville Water & Sewer Authority has partnered with the trusted engineering firm CDM Smith to advance this important initiative and address PFAS finding detected in the raw water source. SGWASA and its Board of Directors extend their appreciation to the state and local partners whose support and advocacy helped make this funding opportunity possible for the Granville County community.
