Guidance on Private Wells and Septic Systems
SGWASA recently received questions on public service and the process to install a private well or septic system. In general, properties within SGWASA’s service area are required to remain connected to public water when a public water line is accessible, and to remain connected to public sewer when public sewer is available to the property.

Penny Shortage Update
Butner, NC. March 3, 2026 - SGWASA is currently experiencing a temporary operational impact related to a local penny shortage. Local banking partners have not been able to supply pennies at this time, which means SGWASA is unable to provide exact change for cash transactions at the point of payment. Until this issue is resolved, customers who pay with cash must provide exact change, or they may choose to pay slightly more than the billed amount. Any overpayment will be applie

I-85 SSI Project Two Week Look Ahead for March 3, 2026
I-85 SSI Project activities will continue progressing over the next two weeks with a focus on controlled blasting, bypass operations, excavation, and continued material deliveries to support pipeline installation. Crews are advancing work in active construction zones while maintaining coordination with project partners and utilities to support safe field conditions, maintain access where possible, and minimize service interruptions.

I-85 SSI Project - 8th Street Detour
Beginning February 23, 2026, the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement (SSI) Project contractor will begin daily blasting activities in the 8th Street construction area. Blasting is anticipated to occur between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., and is weather-dependent and subject to Fire Marshal availability.

Butner, NC. February 11, 2026 - The South Granville Water & Sewer Authority made organizational changes during the February 2026 Board of Directors meeting through the annual Election of SGWASA officers. At the January 2026 Board meeting, Commissioner Jimmy Gooch formally notified the Board of his intent to conclude his service as Board Chair. By unanimous vote, the Board seated Commissioner Kenneth McLamb as Chair, with Commissioner Georgana Kicinksi continuing as Vice Chair

This week, JF Wilkerson (Haren Construction Company’s pipeline subcontractor) is expected to begin initial field activities along E. Middleton Drive and W. Middleton Drive, as early as tomorrow.

Main Street in Creedmoor- Water Main Repairs Completed
Repairs to the water main break in the 300 block of Main Street in Creedmoor, North Carolina have been successfully completed. Water service has been fully restored to all affected customers.
SGWASA crews are working to restore service as safely and efficiently as possible. Additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.

Crews are actively responding to multiple water main breaks affecting service in Butner, North Carolina. While repairs are underway for the apartment line break on West C Street, crews are also addressing an additional valve-related break near the 300 block of 16th Street.

Utility crews have been notified of an unexpected repair required at the 503 Apartments on West C Street in Butner, North Carolina. To safely accommodate this repair, water service must be temporarily shut off along the entire length of West C Street.

Hydrant Damage and Temporary Repair
Late last evening, a vehicle struck a fire hydrant, causing damage to the connected water line leading back to the main on East E Street in Butner, NC. SGWASA crews promptly responded and completed an emergency repair by installing a straight pipe to maintain system integrity.
