The I-85 SSI Project is moving into the next sequence of field activity as crews transition from Railroad Avenue toward A Street and prepare for upcoming work near 8th and C streets.

Construction is advancing successfully across the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project. The following Two Week Look Ahead covers Construction Packages 1 and 2 from August 31st through September 11th, 2026. Under Construction Package 1, JF Wilkerson crews plan to dechlorinate the new 8-inch waterline and collect a bacteriological sample before proceeding with restoration work. Pipeline construction associated with the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2026, along 11th Street between West B Street and West C Street. Work is expected to continue for approximately four to six weeks, with access limited to local traffic during active construction.

The Central Avenue road closure is scheduled to end by close of business today, ahead of the original estimated completion date of August 10th, 2026.

The I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project is advancing significantly, with heightened construction activities planned for the coming weeks in various high-traffic locations in Butner, NC.

Crews will continue pump station and pipeline work in the East Middleton area while sewer main installation and site restoration continue on CP-2. Controlled blasting is currently in progress within the work zone, with another session scheduled for 3:00 pm.
