  • 2 min read

I-85 SSI Project activities will continue progressing over the next two weeks with a focus on controlled blasting, bypass operations, excavation, and continued material deliveries to support pipeline installation. Crews are advancing work in active construction zones while maintaining coordination with project partners and utilities to support safe field conditions, maintain access where possible, and minimize service interruptions.

Controlled blasting has been paused for today, Monday, March 3, 2026. Updates will be provided when resuming. Blasting will soon continue in 8th Street area of Butner, NC, and is expected to continue as field conditions allow.

Bypass operations are expected to remain active as excavation begins and pipeline installation work advances. Material deliveries will continue on a rolling basis.

Work planning also includes continued coordination related to lift station abandonment activities and field verification of salvage-related items. Video inspection work has been completed for applicable areas and project teams will continue organizing field documentation so that construction decisions can be supported with clear records.

Temporary closures will remain in place where active work requires it, including continued impacts associated with the 8th Street work zone and an additional closure anticipated to begin next week in another nearby segment.
