Butner, NC. February 12, 2026 - The I-85 SSI Project has maintained steady progress, and crews will continue moving work forward in the Joe Peed Road and Middleton Drive corridors. Crews have been working in the Joe Peed Road area to install a new section of water line and complete routine testing on a sewer segment. Equipment is being moved into position along East Middleton Drive and materials staged along West Middleton Drive in preparation for upcoming pipe installation.

During the week of February 16, 2026, crews plan to place focus on locating existing underground utilities along the route to support safe construction. Pipeline installation is expected to start along East Middleton Drive and progress toward E. Lyon Station Road, with additional installation activity beginning near Will Suitt Road and continuing toward E. Lyon Station Road.

Drivers should anticipate continued flagging and intermittent lane closures on East Middleton Drive, West Middleton Drive, Will Suitt Road, E. Lyon Station Road, and Joe Peed Road as work and deliveries move through the corridor. Crews will also begin coordinating driveway crossing work with impacted property owners along East Middleton Drive, which may require short, temporary access interruptions while crossings are completed. No service or utility outages are planned, but access and traffic patterns may change throughout the workday.

Please travel cautiously through work zones and follow posted signagVisit sgwasa.org/i85 to learn more about the project.

Weekend Construction

February brought intense winter weather conditions that posed challenges for contractors completing project work. Construction teams will be onsite this Saturday, February 14, at the Joe Peed Lift Station location. Crews are tentatively scheduled to place concrete for a key section of the valve and electrical building foundation. Please travel with caution, remain alert, and follow flaggers and posted detour guidance in the area.
