Residents within the I-85 SSI Project construction corridor may receive a Pre-Blast Survey notification letter from Park Construction. This notice is being provided because rock removal may be required as work progresses, and your property may be located within the project’s standard survey radius for potential blasting activities.

What “pre-blasting” Means

On certain utility projects, contractors may encounter rock that cannot be safely removed with standard excavation equipment alone. In those cases, controlled blasting can be used to break rock in a planned, engineered manner so crews can proceed with sewer installation. Controlled blasting is a recognized construction method that uses carefully designed patterns and smaller charges to manage results and reduce impacts compared with large “production” blasts.

A Pre-Blast Survey is a proactive documentation step completed before blasting occurs. The survey creates a record of existing structural conditions to ensure, if questions arise later, clear documentation that protects both residents and the project team.

What To Expect

If your property is within the survey radius identified for this project:

  • S&ME, Inc. (an engineering firm working on behalf of the project team) will conduct surveys over the coming weeks.

  • An engineer or qualified representative will typically photograph the exterior of structures to document visible conditions.

  • Receiving the letter does not mean blasting will definitely occur at your specific location; it means your property is close enough that a survey is offered as a standard precaution.

  • If you receive a notice, please use the contact information provided in your letter to schedule the survey within the requested timeframe.
