November I-85 SSI Progress Meeting

November 19, 2025. Butner, NC - The I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project is one of the region’s most significant wastewater infrastructure investments and progress continues on schedule. During the November 18th progress meeting, project partners reviewed construction milestones, coordination efforts, and upcoming activities designed to strengthen system reliability, expand capacity, and support long-term growth across the service area.
Updates were provided that focused the team on collaboration efforts required to maintain project scheduling, in alignment with regulatory and safety standards.
Contractors discussed ongoing coordination with power utilities and the need to verify the precise location of existing infrastructure along Joe Peed, before additional boring and utility installation can proceed. Field marking, GIS reviews, and drawing comparisons are underway to ensure safe and conflict-free construction.
CP1 - One Month Look Ahead Plans
The Wilkerson team will continue work on the influent line at Joe Peed.
Crews will begin valve and electrical work at Joe Peed.
Water testing and backfill operations are planned for the Joe Peed Lift Station.
Backfilling processes will continue at the East Middleton Lift Station.
Influent line installation at Joe Peed will proceed, and is scheduled to continue at additional sites by an additional crew to support the Wilkerson team.
SGWASA will continue to share project updates as construction progresses. This long-term capital improvement reflects SGWASA’s commitment to strengthening wastewater infrastructure and maintaining reliable services.
