Update January 25, 2026:
A Winter Weather Warning remains in effect. SGWASA offices and the Welcome Center will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026. The Authority will evaluate conditions and issue an update regarding Tuesday operating hours as weather notifications and roadway conditions evolve.

Winter weather can create tangible challenges. Taking proactive steps like disconnecting outdoor hoses, protecting exposed plumbing, maintaining heat, and letting a faucet drip can help prevent frozen pipes and reduce the likelihood of damage during the storm.
Below are practical actions customers can take ahead of and during freezing temperatures:
Let a faucet drip. A slow, steady drip keeps water moving through your service line and indoor plumbing, helping prevent freezing. Prioritize a faucet on an exterior wall or the faucet farthest from where your service line enters the home.
Unhook all outside water hoses. SGWASA recommends disconnecting and draining all garden hoses and removing splitters from outdoor spigots. Leaving hoses attached can trap water in the faucet assembly, increasing the risk of freezing and pipe breaks.
Weatherize and insulate exposed pipes. Wrap exposed pipes with pipe insulation or heat tape (used according to the manufacturer’s instructions).
Open cabinet doors for under-sink plumbing. If your sink plumbing is on an exterior wall, open cabinet doors to allow warmer indoor air to circulate around the pipes.
Keep your thermostat consistent, especially overnight. Maintain indoor heat, even if you are away. Avoid lowering the thermostat too much at night, as nighttime temperatures often drive the greatest freezing risk.
Locate your main shutoff valve before conditions worsen. Knowing where your home’s main shutoff valve is located can save time if a pipe bursts. If you have not identified it, take a moment to find it now and ensure it is accessible.
SGWASA is monitoring the potential for winter weather this weekend. Customers are encouraged to prepare now by disconnecting outdoor hoses, insulating exposed plumbing, and allowing a faucet to drip during freezing temperatures to help prevent frozen pipes.
In the event of a water or sewer emergency, the SGWASA utility team is available to support customers as conditions allow. Winter weather and roadway conditions may impact response times, and teams will operate as safely as possible during the storm.
