Update May 15th @ 11:00 AM

Butner, NC. May 15, 2025 - Due to elevated groundwater levels and recent rainfall, a substantial amount of sand infiltrated the drilled blast holes, prepared for controlled blasting processes. As a result, the controlled blasting originally scheduled for today has been postponed. To address these site conditions, Carolina Drilling will implement a mitigation strategy involving over-drilling and sleeving each hole to a depth of 11 feet. This approach will ensure the blast powder can be safely and effectively placed while keeping the boreholes dry.

The necessary adjustment will delay blasting activities to either Monday or Tuesday of next week.

The project's construction teams remain committed to ensuring the safety, precision, and long-term reliability of all work performed on-site. Further updates will be shared as progress continues.

Butner, NC. May 14, 2025 - Progress continues on the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project, with current efforts focused on site preparation and preliminary construction activities. As part of this phase, the project’s contractor, Carolina Drilling, has initiated controlled blasting operations to facilitate subsurface utility infrastructure work.

On Thursday, May 15, Carolina Drilling will return to the Joe Peed Lift Station site to lay out and drill a precision blasting grid. Detonation of this grid is expected to occur in the late afternoon, pending favorable weather conditions.

Residents in the immediate area may experience minor ground vibration during the controlled blast. These activities are performed under strict safety and regulatory protocols to ensure minimal disruption. No significant tremors or structural disturbances are anticipated.

Please note that inclement weather is forecasted for Thursday. Any weather-related schedule adjustments will be communicated in advance. We appreciate the your continued patience and cooperation as we carry out these critical infrastructure improvements.
