Water Professionals Week provides an opportunity to recognize the skilled men and women whose work keeps essential utility services operating safely and reliably. The first Monday in March is observed by many utilities and industry partners as Water Professionals Day, which falls on March 2, 2026.

Throughout this week SGWASA will share daily highlights featuring  Water Professionals in their various roles, departments, and teams across the organization. These spotlights will provide a closer look at the specialized work happening every day to keep our systems operating safely and efficiently.

SGWASA appreciates all that each team member contributes to keep critical water and wastewater services dependable for southern Granville County. We value the expertise, discipline, and readiness our professionals bring to this work on today and every day.

Human Resources Department

Human Resources helps SGWASA attract, support, and retain a capable workforce while advancing transparency, compliance, and employee success. This directly strengthens our ability to deliver reliable water and sewer services to Southern Granville County.

Human Resources Manager, Priscilla Adcock, supports team members across the organization, stays connected to the latest HR training and resources, and represents SGWASA through community event participation.

Wastewater & Water Treatment Departments

Water and wastewater service is not a passive utility function. It is a connected, continuously managed operation that requires ongoing decision-making and routine verification because conditions shift daily.

The water treatment team at SGWASA monitors treatment performance and makes timely adjustments to maintain consistent water quality as source water conditions change. Teams also oversee pumps, controls, and system pressure to keep service stable across the distribution network, supported by laboratory testing that confirms performance and informs operational decisions.

Wastewater operations include treatment as a dynamic process that must remain balanced. Operators manage flows, equipment, and treatment conditions so water leaving the facility meets permit requirements and protects the environment. Pretreatment oversight provides an added safeguard by helping ensure incoming discharges can be treated effectively and safely.

In parallel, SGWASA Utilities Teams work 24/7 in coordination with water and wastewater operations responding to emergency repairs, advancing planned construction, and partnering with community vendors when needed to support operations and restore service safely.

Across all systems, readiness is essential. Preventive maintenance, compliance monitoring, and rapid field response help minimize interruptions and protect public health every day. During SGWASA's Water Professionals Week, we recognize the expertise and discipline required to keep essential service dependable for Southern Granville County. Finance & Customer Service Department

SGWASA’s Finance and Customer Service functions provide the structure that keeps utility operations accountable, customer facing information accurate, and payment systems dependable. Both departments are led by Richard Balmer, Finance Director and Treasurer to the SGWASA Board, with the partnered work of Reuben Carden as Assistant Finance Director. Finance leadership supports the Board through routine financial reporting, budget administration, and strong data controls that sustain transparent decision making; this department collaborates with SGWASA’s executive leadership to support grant applications, funding research, and other strategic planning efforts that strengthen long term system reliability.

In partnership with Finance, SGWASA’s Customer Service team serves as the primary access point for billing services, community support, and account information.

Finance Committee Meeting

Communications Department

During SGWASA’s Water Professionals Week, the Communications Department is recognized for the work that keeps customers informed and connected to discussion surrounding utility service. Under the direction of the Executive Director, Krystle Lee leads this department as SGWASA’s Public Information Officer and Board Secretary.

As SGWASA’s Webmaster, Krystle develops and maintains the official website, providing 24 hour access to timely updates, customer resources, and service information. This department strengthens internal coordination by building and maintaining SGWASA’s intranet, which centralizes internal resources, supports crisis communication, and provides open access to Board files and brand materials for presentations and customer communications.

The Communications Department supports community engagement by coordinating key project events, including milestones such as the I-85 SSI Project Kickoff. When urgent issues occur, this department manages 24 hour crisis communication by reporting verified information from utility crews, contractors, and vendors so the community receives timely updates.

Leadership Team

Under the leadership of Executive Director Scott N Schroyer, SGWASA manages major capital and engineering initiatives, coordinates with project partners, and advances long range planning to modernize and expand water and sewer infrastructure for Southern Granville County.

Director Schroyer leads a data driven approach to identifying system needs and advancing targeted solutions, via research empowered coordination with project partners, environmental engineering firms, and agencies to progress a suite of system improvement projects.

Assistant Executive Director Summerlin provides executive oversight of daily operations to ensure essential utility services are delivered consistently, while also supporting long term sustainability and infrastructure development.

The Directors regularly brief stakeholders and elected officials on system needs, managing projects at a scale that demands rigorous oversight and continuous coordination.

SGWASA Board

This progress is overseen and authorized through SGWASA’s seven member Board of Directors, which affirms policy direction, provides financial oversight, considers operational concerns, and establishes rates in support of reliable service.

The Board also conducts periodic reviews of SGWASA policies, procedures, and operations to ensure the Authority fulfills its essential governmental functions that protect public health and welfare under North Carolina law.

The Board’s work is supported by SGWASA legal counsel, including Attorney James Wrenn, who advises on governance, due process, and legal considerations associated with Board actions and utility operations.
