Butner, NC. January 8, 2026 - The I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project continues to move forward, and crews are in progress of kicking of Construction Package 2 of the project, and are preparing for the next phase of installation work. Over the next two weeks, scheduled material deliveries will arrive on-site to support ongoing construction activities.
Outlined below are the current project objectives, material deliveries, and staging activities anticipated over the next two weeks.
Approximately 5,000 linear feet of pipe has already been delivered and is currently strung along the alignment west of D Street, with remaining pipe stored at or near the Mount Hope Lift Station.
The East Middleton Lift Station will undergo jib crane foundation work, including sub-grade excavation and preparation, form setting, reinforcing steel installation, concrete placement and finishing, and the required curing period.
Manhole deliveries began on January 6th, with Park Construction of NC coordinating timing to avoid materials remaining out longer than necessary.
The scheduled deliveries include the first 20 manholes, along with rings and covers (frames and lids), and saddles associated with manhole-related installation work.
PVC pipe and coupling deliveries are anticipated in approximately one month.
Crews will increase construction activity on C Street, D Street, and 8th Street in Butner, NC over the next two weeks in the Two Week Look Ahead (TWLA) plan. Park has also released structures up to 11th Street, marking continued progress along the project corridor.
The East Middleton Lift Station will also include liquid-phase odor control work, consisting of layout and excavation for the concrete equipment pad and placement of the specified stone base.
Additional coordination items are underway as the project advances. Park will conduct test drilling for rock prior to completing pre-blast surveys, beginning on 8th Street. At this time, no major travel or service impacts are planned in association with this TWLA.
