Butner, NC. March 18, 2026 - SGWASA’s I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project is scheduled to continue with contractor activity focused on East Middleton Drive, West Middleton Drive, Will Suitt Road, West D Street, and the microtunnel receiving pit area of the Creedmoor, NC construction site.

Planned work includes ongoing force main installation, gravity sewer installation, pipe deliveries, trench backfilling and ground stabilization, bypass pipe removal, and preparation for controlled blasting associated with microtunnel receiving pit operations.

For CP1, crews are expected to continue potholing existing utilities as needed and advancing the 16-inch force main from the East Middleton Lift Station toward East Lyon Station Road. Gravity sewer installation is planned to continue early in the period along West Middleton Drive before one crew temporarily shifts off site for emergency work elsewhere.

Residents and motorists may continue to see traffic flagging, lane closures, equipment movement, and material deliveries along East Middleton Drive, West Middleton Drive, and Will Suitt Road. Driveway crossings are also planned along East Middleton Drive, and crews will coordinate directly with affected property owners as needed to help manage access.

For CP2, work will continue with ongoing material deliveries, pipe installation across West D Street, trench backfilling, site stabilization, and removal of the bypass pipe. Pre-blast surveys around the microtunnel receiving pit are expected to be completed, and Carolina Drilling is scheduled to mobilize into the receiving pit area at I-85.

Blasting at 8th Street remains on hold until further notice, while blasting activity is anticipated at the microtunnel receiving pit. Short-term traffic impacts may occur near D Street, 8th Street, and Will Suitt Road during deliveries and active construction operations. Sewer and gas service impacts are expected to remain minimal, and while there is potential for water service impacts during blasting operations, repair materials are on site to support rapid response if needed.
