Beginning July 1, 2026 through August 3, 2026, SGWASA will conduct its annual Water System Maintenance Program, including system flushing throughout the water distribution system. This proactive maintenance helps maintain high water quality and ensures continued compliance with state and federal drinking water standards.
As part of the maintenance program, SGWASA will temporarily convert from chloramines to free chlorine for disinfection. During this period, customers may notice a stronger chlorine taste or odor. Water quality will continue to be closely monitored, and the water will remain safe for drinking, cooking, bathing, and all normal household uses.

Residents may also see crews flushing fire hydrants throughout the service area. Flushing helps remove sediment, maintain water clarity, and ensure the temporary disinfectant reaches all areas of the distribution system. In some locations, customers may experience temporary water discoloration. If this occurs, simply run cold water from a faucet for several minutes until the water clears.
Customers who use SGWASA water for kidney dialysis, fish aquariums, or ponds should continue using the appropriate treatment methods to remove both chlorine and ammonia before use. Dialysis patients should consult their healthcare provider with any questions, and aquarium owners should follow guidance from their aquatic supply provider.
SGWASA appreciates your patience as these important maintenance activities are completed. This annual program helps ensure the delivery of safe, reliable, high-quality drinking water to our customers year-round.
