Butner, NC. December 15, 2025 - The South Granville Water and Sewer Authority announced that the Filter Media Replacement Program is currently underway at the Water Treatment Plant. This project is part of a phased program to strengthen reliability, support continual improvement, and protect water quality for Granville County residents.

What is filter media? Filter media is the layered granular material inside SGWASA’s water treatment filters that water passes through to remove fine particles and remaining solids, helping produce clear, high-quality drinking water.

As filter media ages, it can lose effectiveness and contribute to operational limitations.

SGWASA operates five filters, and to maintain functionality during the replacement process, each filter will be replaced one at a time. This phased approach is designed to maximize treatment capability and help maintain consistent service while work progresses.

The current filter media replacement program is one of many projects SGWASA has in progress to support continual improvement of water quality and overall system performance. SGWASA recognizes that dependable water treatment is essential to public health and everyday life. By completing this filter media replacement program in phases and in coordination with longtime engineering partners Hazen and Sawyer, we are strengthening the performance and resilience of our treatment process.
