I-85 SSI Project
The South Granville Water And Sewer Authority partnered with engineering experts CDM Smith to conduct the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project.
This project will replace aging materials to maintain an infrastructure that meets Granville County’s present and forthcoming capacity demands.
Two Week Look Ahead
7/29/26, 1:14 PM
I-85 SSI Project construction, over the next two weeks, will focus on continued pipeline installation along Joe Peed Road, Laundry Avenue, Railroad Avenue, and Central Avenue, while crews advance multiple critical phases of the I-85 Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project. Work includes completion of the Joe Peed utility crossings, continued pavement restoration along A Street and Central Avenue, and the start of micro tunneling operations. Blasting activities remain on hold pending completion of gas utility coordination.
Motorists may experience temporary traffic impacts along Joe Peed Road, Laundry Avenue, Railroad Avenue, A Street, Central Avenue, West Middleton Drive, East Middleton Drive, and E. Lyon Station Road. Joe Peed Road will remain closed through Thursday between U.S. Highway 15 and W.B. Clark Road while crews complete multiple utility crossings and permanent pavement restoration. Joe Peed Road between W.B. Clark Road and E. Lyon Station Road will remain open throughout the week. The Central Avenue closure and signed detour remain in place as construction progresses, with drivers encouraged to use I-85 Exit 191 when traveling to and from the Town of Butner.
Please be advised that noise disruptions may occur during the blasting and construction activities. Work may begin as early as 7:00 AM. Traffic impacts should be expected on multiple streets within the construction area, primarily associated with deliveries, blasting activity, and excavation operations with work ending at 10:00 PM.
