October brought SGWASA’s engineering, treatment, and infrastructure work into public view through the SGWASA Connect Community Information Expo. Held on October 21st at Butner Town Hall, the event presented a behind the scenes view of SGWASA’s operations by connecting the Authority’s history and service responsibilities with the systems and procedures that support water and wastewater service. Customers were provided access to treatment process information, watermain samples, infrastructure development activity details, regulatory considerations, billing practices, customer service resources, and discussions with utility representatives and engineering partners.
The event displays and discussions reflected several engineering milestones reached or advanced during October. Design of the PFAS Advanced Water Treatment facility progressed from the completed 90% milestone toward final design, while expanded pilot testing remained underway at the water treatment plant. The I-85 SSI Project advanced under both construction packages. CP-1 remained on schedule as force main installation progressed along Joe Peed Road and construction moved forward at the Joe Peed and East Middleton Road pump stations. CP-2 remained ahead of schedule, with pipeline installation along A Street and Eighth Street, controlled rock excavation near C Street, completion of the Norfolk Southern railroad crossing, and continued directional bore pipeline installation beneath I-85.
The Creedmoor water meter replacement program reached approximately 98% completion, supporting improved meter accuracy and system modernization. Water and wastewater infrastructure assessments, asset-management plans, and 10-year capital improvement plans were presented and approved, establishing updated guidance for long term system planning. Water quality engineering also progressed through hydraulic modeling, booster pump station assessments, distribution control evaluations, and flushing program development. The Golden Pond unidirectional flushing pilot remained successfully completed, while the Water Treatment Plant Master Plan continued advancing infrastructure inspections and long-term treatment planning.
